Lagorai raspberries

"Our customers - without exception - are very positive about Lagorai raspberries. And, also our growers are enthusiastic about the variety," shares Marcel van Lith (Senior salesman Soft Fruit, The Greenery). The large size, excellent flavour and shelf life characterise these Lagorai raspberries. The Lagorai variety has its origins in the Italian region of Trentino.

Consumer

Marcel says: "We see an increasing interest in raspberries among consumers. The number of consumers buying raspberries every year is rising sharply and the purchase volume per consumer is also increasing." The volume of raspberries at The Greenery is growing in line with demand. In order to provide the market with the best possible fruit, The Greenery, together with its growers, has been putting a lot of energy into developing new varieties for Soft Fruit for some time. Based on the good experiences of the past year, a large part of this expansion will consist of Lagorai.

Commercial opportunities for growers and retailers

Lagorai raspberries, the largest and sweetest in the Netherlands, have won a permanent place on the shelves for good reason. Demand for this variety is increasing; even a major Dutch retailer has now embraced it. According to independent research by Normec, Lagorai exceeds the set standard for raspberries in terms of flavour and shelf life.

Sustainable raspberry cultivation

The Greenery has been growing raspberries under solar panels at grower Piet Albers since 2021. "The consumer gets a good product and the solar panels provide power to as many as 800 households. This double function is good for the environment and for my raspberries, because raspberries grow best in partial shade," Piet says. In this way, supermarkets can profile themselves by choosing Dutch and sustainably grown raspberries.
